Outreach Program

The best inheritance we can give our children is a few minutes of our time each day. - Battista

With the Runaway and Homeless Youth Grant we work to prevent adolescents from leaving their home for more dangerous surroundings. We do this by offering individual and family counseling as well as the Families In Action program. Our FIA program is designed as a group experience that teaches families how to communicate more effectively.

Through the Drug Free Communities Grant we also work towards prevention. In this case prevention of drug use by pre-teens. We offer the same services for families in need. Individual and family counseling provide a more one-on-one atmosphere while the Active Parenting Now offers education to parents.

The Parenting Programs used at Youth & Family services were developed by Dr. Michael Popkin and Active Parenting Publishers (www.activeparenting.com). The programs are full of useful information that is easy to understand and apply. Parents and children are encouraged to practice the skills learned each week. Some of these valuable skills include techniques of Active Communication, Logical Consequences and The Power of Choice.
