Reaching the Finish Line

Jimmy* was referred to our Juvenile Drug Court program after being arrested on drug charges. Jimmy did all kinds of drugs: methamphetamine, cocaine, prescription drugs, marijuana, alcohol, etc. He was suicidal when he was first admitted into the program because he was forced into treatment, but he did not want to stop using drugs. Jimmy eventually graduated from the drug court program, but 2 months after graduation, Jimmy called his counselor and said he needed some help. The counselor started seeing Jimmy again and involved his mom, some of his friends and neighbors for 7 months longer in regular out-patient counseling. Since then, this young man has been clean and sober for 2 years. The counselor recently saw him at Northern Oklahoma College, Enid Campus where he will be graduating this year with an associate’s degree.
